MOTAT Recount

Our time at MOTAT By Elina

As the teacher came and called our group we went to the fire
station and we saw some fire cars with the village. We took
part in a scavenger hunt. It was easy. We were the first ones
to find the egg, and the fire place. The group leader said we
should have ditched the scavenger hunt and go to the
trampoline.

We went to the School and we had to look for for some
objects such as pencils and books. The funniest thing was
that every single kid was standing next to the tables. Everyone
was singing the national anthem in Maori and English.

Then we went in the church. We saw chairs. There was this
lectern that had an eagle carved at the front of it. It was cool.
We looked behind us and we saw a sign that talked about the
church and the priest.

When we went into the inventors room we saw some
trampolines but it was locked. Then we found out after a while
that it was unlocked. We were jealous because we didn’t have
a turn. Then we went to where the old telephones were.
Lots of children were pretending to call strangers.
When I was on the telephone I was pretending to call the
police, and random old phone numbers. Every time I called a
random number it would beep. It was boring to hear a beep.
If we called strangers then we would have pranked called them.

Then we went passed the selfie machine. We saw children
taking selfies on the machine. It was projected on the board.

Then we had lunch it was delicious. Now for the fun part.
We had a tram ride. I was confused by the name of it. I
thought it was a train but people called it back in the days a
tram. I didn’t know tram rides even existed. I now know that
tram rides at MOTAT exist.

When we went on the tram we saw a bunch of ducks and
birds. I saw a woman feeding the ducks and birds. The person
that was driving the tram was called Rob. He said to the lady
that she was not allowed to feed to the birds and ducks.
Everyone was looking. As we continued on we stopped at
MOTAT 2. We got out of the tram. Rob taught us how to start
the tram.

Then we went back inside the tram. Rob said again “Ladies
first”. All the girls went in and picked their spots on board the
tram. Nearly all of the girls filled up their spots because there
were too many girls including me.

As we were going back we saw two pukekos running around.
They looked liked baby pukekos.

Then we went to the Pump house. It was boring because
there wasn’t anything interesting. There was only old stuff that
had smoke coming out of it.

As we went with Kent to the classroom we had to learn about
airplanes, and experiments. The first experiment I did was the
one where you had to pour water put into a cup and put a
piece of paper on top. I put my hand on
it and flipped it upside down. The paper wasn’t dropping.

The next experiment was to make the plastic ball float. The
first thing I did was to put the plastic ball into the cup and put
a blow dryer on top.

The other experiment I had to do was twist a stick sideways
and aim for the  target.

The best experiment was the one where you had to make a
tiny plane and put it in a wind machine. I was hoping my
plane flew high, but unfortunately it didn’t fly at all because
it was too heavy.

Then we went back to the bus and went back to school.
After school I had a chat to my Mum. I said to her that there
were different things. There used to be a mirror maze and a
sound room. Sadly they are not there anymore. Apart from
this I had a fun action packed day at MOTAT.
